Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has been a major manufacturer of EPON*
products that support high-speed optical broadband communication. The Company's optical line terminals (OLTs), FSU7101 and FSU7102, and optical network units (ONUs), FTE7553-BAX and FTE6083, have been qualified by Japan Cable Laboratories (JLabs), a Japan-based standardization organization for cable television technology, for compliance with their interoperability specifications - JLabs SPEC-027, version 1.1.Meeting the JLabs specifications means that these products hold interoperability with related devices produced by other manufacturers, allowing CATV operators in Japan to build systems best suited to their own network service.
The FSU7101 and FTE6083 were qualified in 2013 by Cable Television Laboratories, Inc., a US-based standardization organization for cable television technology, for compliance with the DPoE*
1.0 standard and became the first products qualified by standardization organizations both in Japan and the U.S.With an expansion in the capacity of video/Internet services in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Games, demand for EPON products is expected to increase to support the development of communication infrastructures. Sumitomo Electric continues to work on developing and producing even more advanced EPON products.
