R&D Organization

  • Administrates plans and achievements of the R&D unit, and promotes initiatives to develop new technologies and expand business domains aiming to implement our mid-term management plan, VISION 2022.

  • As a technical one-stop desk, we offer optimum system solutions in response to changes in fields where vehicles are connected with traffic communication and energy infrastructure. We also promote the development of vehicle components matching customers' needs with the Group's expertise and resources.

  • Develops advanced products for electric vehicles and connected technologies for information and energy transmission, contributing to our automotive business utilizing our expertise in the material and infocommunication fields.

  • Develops technologies and products that meet technological changes in the electric power infrastructure field including the expansion of renewable energy usage and advancement of electric power infrastructure using infocommunication technologies.

  • Develops optical and wireless (5G) communication technologies for high-speed broadband networks, as well as millimeter-wave radars for infrastructures leveraging our wireless technology, traffic signal control systems using probe vehicle data, and advanced driving support systems with telematics.

  • In collective efforts with plants in our group, the Center pushes ahead with the development of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies such as sensing systems, wireless communications, AI and big data analyses, to support our manufacturing, focusing on work safety, quality improvement, automated inspection, and predictive maintenance.

  • Develops cyberattack countermeasures for network-connected equipment at our businesses and, in cooperation with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), researches advanced cyber-security technologies.

  • We support the manufacturing and development of our group's products through the advanced technologies of analysis and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering). We have main bases in our Osaka, Itami and Yokohama works, as well as external facilities such as the Kyushu Synchrotron Light Research Center and K computer.

  • Creates unique metallic and inorganic materials and achieves process innovation using ultra-high pressure, powder metallurgy, and our other technologies.

  • Contributes to the development of products and technologies in the Group's extensive business fields by leveraging our core technologies for metal, inorganic, and polymer materials as well as fine circuit fabrication.

  • Develops optical fiber-related technologies and highly functional products that are used in optical communication networks and data centers. The lab contributes to the development of a smart society through the applications of these technologies to the consumer and industry fields.

  • Develops advanced compound semiconductor materials and products for the two main markets in information and communication field (optics and wireless) through vertical integration of the Group’s technologies of compound semiconductor crystals, epitaxial growth and processing, optoelectronic micro-assembly with high precision, and optical transceiver design.

  • Develops silicon carbide (SiC) substrates, epitaxial wafers and devices for business expansion. SiC is a promising material for next-generation power devices.

  • Looking ahead to the impacts of the world’s technological and social changes to our business, the lab conducts research and development on next-generation electric wires and energy technologies with ongoing national projects.

Overseas Operations

  • Located in Silicon Valley, U.S., ICS is committed to investigating and researching new technologies and markets in the U.S., as well as discovering and nurturing future core technologies aimed at creating next-generation global businesses.

  • Supports the Group’s production and development operations in analysis in China. (The Center is located in Suzhou in east China.)
