Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Corporation, a 100%-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., announced the completion of the plant building of one of its subsidiaries, Tohoku Sumiden Precision Co., Ltd., established in April 2016. The new plant is now engineering its production system toward scheduled full-scale operation from November 2017.
Tohoku Sumiden Precision was established in April 2016 and the construction of its plant building began in September 2016, based on the basic agreement of site location among the Fukushima Prefectural Government, Miharu Municipal Government, and Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal Corporation. Having completed the construction and held the completion ceremony, the plant is now engineering its production system toward scheduled full-scale operation from November 2017.
This plant eliminated pillars as much as possible to secure large spaces within it, and adopted an air-conditioning system to uniformly control temperature and humidity in the building as well as an eco-friendly solar power generation system. On the same premises, Tohoku Tool Engineering Center (My-TEC), the sixth such facility in Japan, will be established to enhance customer services in the Tohoku region by providing individual technical consultations, demonstrations of machining work using the latest tools and equipment, and various workshops from next December.
The Sumitomo Electric Group will continue its efforts toward restoration of the Tohoku region affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake through the establishment of these facilities and provision of excellent products and services that satisfy customer requirements.
