Features of POREFLON

POREFLON*, made of porous 100% PTFE has four main features.
*POREFLON is a brand name.

  1. Chemical resistance
Can be cleaned with chemicals from pH 0 to 14, including high-concentration alkalis
  2. Thermal resistance
Resistance to high temperatures allows use in membrane filtration applications up to 200°C
  3. Durability
Durability against shaking and flexing allows use for extended periods
  4. Permeability
High porosity ensures high permeability and excellent water treatment capability
Porous material made of 100% PTFE
Production pore size range: 0.03 to 10μm
The white fibers in the SEM image are PTFE fibers, and the dark areas are the spaces (pores) that allow water to pass. POREFLON can be manufactured with a pore rate (porosity) of up to around 90%. (This excludes strength and other restrictions.)

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)

PTFE, an acronym for polytetrafluoroethylene, is a type of fluororesin.
PTFE resin has very stable atomic chemical bonds, and high chemical and heat resistance. It is a general-purpose plastic used in many applications by the chemical and semiconductor industries and has been used to develop superior water treatment membranes.

PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)
・Chemical resistance
Stable operation when used with most of acids, alkalis and solvents.
・Thermal resistance
-90 to 260°C

PTFE is a general purpose plastic with excellent chemical and heat resistance.

The molecular structure of polyethylene has four hydrogen atoms (H) connected around two carbon atoms (C). When two hydrogen atoms (H) in polyethylene are replaced by fluorine atoms (F), it becomes polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF). In PTFE, all four of the hydrogen atoms in polyethylene are replaced by fluorine atoms, which have a large atomic radius to cover and protect the carbon-to-carbon chemical bonds, making, PTFE extremely stable.
