Question from the customer
Manually rotating the blade of the optical fibre cleavers often results in poor cleaving quality after rotation, changes the blade height, and makes adjustment necessary, which takes much time and is very troublesome.
Answer from the engineer
With Sumitomo Electric's automatic blade rotating cleaver FC-8R and FC-6R series, we can select different modes for the blade, either fixed or automatic blade rotation, as appropriate. Normally, we select and use the fixed mode, but if the distinguishing characteristics of the fibre end face become worse or if the cleaving quality becomes poor, we switch to the automatic blade rotation mode and just rotate the blade, which causes the blade to automatically change to the specified position. After that, by switching back to the fixed mode, we can prevent deterioration of the distinguishing characteristics of the fibre end face due to a shift in the height of the blade that accompanies a blade position change, as would formerly occur at construction sites. Also, there is now no more troublesome work of changing the blade position, and we are able to perform stable fusion splicing work. In addition, the FC-8R has a function whereby we can select from two phases to change the lid opening angle. After performing a task, opening the lid to the maximum angle of 90° made maintenance very easy to perform.
