Interview with Sumitomo Electric
At Sumitomo Electric, Production Management is the heartbeat behind our manufacturing excellence. It’s not just about knowing the products and materials — it’s about mastering everything from procurement to delivery, ensuring that each item reaches our customers with precision and care.
By connecting departments and partners inside and outside the company, and building trust through deep knowledge and dependable coordination, these professionals embody the spirit of Sumitomo Electric craftsmanship: people-centered, purpose-driven, and always looking toward the future.

Production management is far too complex to sum up in a single phrase. But if I had to name one thing that underpins it all, it’s knowledge. I personally handle around 300 different types of materials—ranging from high-end components to inexpensive consumables. Each one comes with its own unique suppliers, quality variations, and lead times, making every decision a delicate balancing act.
This role spans a wide range of areas: coordinating with internal departments, procurement teams, and external vendors is just the beginning. On top of that, a strong grasp of numbers is essential—things like inventory calculations, cost simulations, and purchasing systems all play a vital role. If even one of these elements is missing, production planning can fall apart.
That’s why I always aim to see the whole picture, not just the parts. Every decision I make is built on accumulated knowledge and real-world experience. I gather information daily, organize it, systematize it, and apply it to future decisions. It’s this ongoing process that sharpens my ability to anticipate what’s ahead.
Nurturing the foresight to envision the future—powered by knowledge—that’s what drives my work every day.

Production management is the glue that holds everything together—connecting design, manufacturing, procurement, and sales. It’s our job to keep all these moving parts in harmony. Sometimes, that means striking a delicate balance between different teams with conflicting priorities—and that’s precisely where the heart of this work lies.
At the end of the day, it’s all about people. Managing schedules and numbers is just one part of the equation. What really matters is understanding the perspectives and motivations of everyone involved—and working together to find the best solution. That’s why communication is everything.
To me, coordination itself is a specialized skill—something you hone through real experience. It’s not just a soft skill; it’s a form of expertise.
That’s why I put so much emphasis on building strong relationships across departments. When trust is there, we can face unexpected issues head-on and solve them together.
As a coordinator, I see it as my responsibility to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. That’s the true essence of production management: leading from the center, making sure the entire operation moves forward—every single day.

Much of what we do in production management happens behind the scenes—quiet, steady coordination that often goes unnoticed. But every now and then, the results shine through.
One of those moments is when we hear from our customers—through the voices of our sales team.
“The customer was thrilled.”
“They were relieved the product arrived right on time.”
When I get feedback like that, I genuinely feel, This is why I do what I do.
Even though I’m not the one physically handing the product to the customer, my work contributes to their satisfaction. Those small moments of success stack up, building confidence and driving me to take on the next challenge.
Each win might seem small on its own, but together they create a powerful momentum—one that keeps me moving forward.

To me, every Sumitomo Electric product is the culmination of collective expertise—an achievement made possible by the ideas of designers, the craftsmanship of our factories, the ingenuity of purchasing teams, and countless others working together as one.
That’s why I focus on ensuring these combined efforts reach our customers in perfect form.
My role is simple, yet critical: never betray the expectations of those waiting for our products. Great technology deserves to be delivered with precision and reliability.
By seeing the big picture, coordinating across departments, and staying ahead of what’s to come, I believe we protect the trust that defines Sumitomo Electric.

Production management may not be flashy, but it’s the unseen backbone that holds our manufacturing together—and I take deep pride in being a part of it.
While knowledge is the foundation of my work, what truly keeps things moving is the trust built between people. It's that human connection that allows us to deliver with confidence and consistency.
We connect people. We keep products moving forward.
And we make sure that everything we’ve built is handed off to the next generation with care.
To me, honoring that responsibility is more than a job—it’s a source of pride. It’s how I carry forward the spirit of manufacturing at Sumitomo Electric into the future.
