As a registered building energy management system (BEMS) aggregator for Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO), Sumitomo Electric has been working to conserve electricity when the supply/demand conditions are tight.
A BEMS aggregator requests individual low-volume power users, such as small- and medium-sized buildings, to reduce their electric power consumption when the supply of electricity from an electric power company is predicted to become critical, in order to efficiently manage electric power consumption, as a whole. Thus a BEMS aggregator plays an important role in the stable supply of electricity.
The Japanese government is currently implementing a policy to promote and popularize BEMS, and accordingly, this system is drawing attention as a new, viable business.
Sumitomo Electric was authorized in July this year as a BEMS aggregator for the BEMS introduction project launched by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Sumitomo Electric will actively expand its new power saving business by providing demand response*-based energy management support and other BEMS services in order to contribute to the stable supply of electric power.
