Commencement of Supply of 40 Gbit/s QSFP+ Optical Transceiver Samples

40 Gbit/s small-size optical transceiver QSFP+ for 10 km data transmission

Sumitomo Electric succeeded in development of a 40 Gbit/s small-size QSFP+(*1)optical transceiver for 10 km data transmission and has commenced the supply of samples. Using a laser, photo diode, and integrated circuit made by Sumitomo Electric, the new transceiver has downsized to about the same size as 10 Gbit/s XFP(*2) transceivers, while achieving a data transmission speed four times higher than the 10 Gbit/s XFP with a maximum power consumption of only 2.5 W or less.

The new transceiver conforms to the 40 Gbit/s data transmission standards of both Telecom (ITU-T(*3)) and Datacom (IEEE(*4)) and is expected to be used in a wide variety of applications.
