April 17, 2017,09:00 +0900(JST) Ceremony to Welcome New Staff Members

On April 3, we held our company entrance ceremony to welcome 297 new members.

In attending the ceremony, the newcomers took their first step as working professionals, and I guess they felt a mix of hope and anxiety. Looking back at my own past, I joined this company just as they did, now exactly half a century ago. Since then, I have experienced many ups and downs in my career, while coping with each difficulty with sincerity. With these memories in mind, I offered my congratulations and encouragement to all the new, somewhat nervous-looking employees. My message can be summarized as follows:

  1. Ensure that your work is based on the Sumitomo Spirit, master the basics of your work, and follow the basics conscientiously (Follow the tenets of the Sumitomo Spirit, namely Banji-nissei, [Do your sincere best not only in business but also in every aspect of your life]; Fusu-furi [Don't act rashly or carelessly in pursuit of easy gains]; and Shinyo-kakujitsu [Place prime importance on integrity and sound management].)
  2. Strive to become a professional through constant efforts to improve and develop yourself (Always try to be aware of a wide variety of problems, and aim higher)
  3. Take great care with your communication with others (Diversity is essential to a global company. Establish an extensive network involving a wide variety of people.)

  • Our new employees
    Our new employees

I hope that the new employees will always bear these points in mind when working on their daily tasks. I also hope that they will take great care for their health and safety, and lead fulfilling lives as working professionals both in their careers and private lives.
