Since its joint establishment in 1986 by Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd., SEWS has been playing the role as our main base in North America for the manufacture and sales of automotive wiring harnesses, electronics equipment, electronic units, connectors, and harness parts. Currently, SEWS operates in more than 20 locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with the number of employees, including those of its subsidiaries, standing at 13,000. SEWS is one of Sumitomo Electric Group’s major companies in North America. Since its foundation, the company has emphasized positive relationships with its staff members, their families, and local residents, and has continued its growth.
On April 14, the ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of SEWS was held in fine weather at the ballpark of Bowling Green Hot Rods, the minor league team (1A) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, where the company’s head office is located. With the attendance of SEWS staff members and their families, video messages from Sumitomo Electric President & CEO Masayoshi Matsumoto and SWS President & CEO Fumikiyo Uchioke were shown. Also, those who have long worked for, or used to work for SEWS spoke about their memories at the company and delivered personal messages. The ceremony concluded with the commendation of six staff members who have been working for SEWS for 25 years since its establishment. The ceremony was followed by a softball game in which SEWS staff as “Team SEWS” wore 25th anniversary jerseys. The game enabled SEWS to deepen its interaction with the families of staff members and local residents, making that day unforgettable to Team SEWS. Events to commemorate the 25th anniversary will be held in other places as well, where interaction with various people will be promoted.
