A Certificate of Appreciation from the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. for renovation of underground power transmission cables

Sumitomo Electric received a certificate of appreciation from the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (KEPCO) for the completion of the Shinkaichi Line Renovation in a reduced power disruption period without accidents.

During the renovation work of two underground transmission cables to the Arima Line Substation in Kobe City, abnormal heat was detected on one live line while working on another line without power. Failure of the Arima Line could cause an interruption of power supply (total outage) to the substation and a subsequent massive blackout in the area. Responding to the urgent request from KEPCO, we have shortened our original work schedule by seven days to save and create time for KEPCO to work on the section. The certificate of appreciation highly recognized our efforts to prevent a huge negative impact on the public potentially caused by the power outage in the area.
