Enhanced Product Lineup of Nano-Polycrystalline Diamond Tools for Cutting Cemented Carbide ―Increased tool size options and addition of a new series―

Sumitomo Electric was the first in the industry to develop a cutting tool incorporating nano-polycrystalline diamonds (NPD) produced by firmly and directly bonding together fine particles a few tens of nanometers in size for use as the cutting edge of a ball nose endmill. Thereafter, the Company launched three models (R 0.3, R 0.5 and R 1.0 of type NPDB) as fine finishing tools for cemented carbide.

In addition, recent developments include small-size models R 0.1 and R 0.2 of Mold Finish Master™ SUMIDIA™ binderless ball nose endmill, along with a new series of standard finishing tools available in five models of NPDBS type R 0.1 to 1.0. Furthermore, 37 models of new indexable inserts have been launched on the market.

Sumitomo Electric received an award for cooperation in Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) at the suppliers general meeting held on October 9 by BorgWarner Morse Systems Japan KK.

Tokuo Matsui, General Manager of BorgWarner Morse Systems Japan KK. handed the plaque and certificate of commendation to Mamoru Moritani, Executive Officer of Sumitomo Electric. The Award recognizes our active cost-reducing VA/VE propositions. We will endeavor to achieve further cost reductions and productivity improvements.

Taking Part in Demonstration Testing of Traffic Congestion Information Distribution Using Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting in the Philippines

Sumitomo Electric System Solutions Co., Ltd., in conjunction with Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and other companies, is taking part in local demonstration testing (implemented in Manila) for the Feasibility Study for Road Traffic Information System Utilizing Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting (ISDB-T*1) in the Republic of the Philippines, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. The Ministry aims to strengthen Japan's international competitiveness in the field of ICT*2 by conducting this study in the Republic of the Philippines, a country that has adopted the Japanese digital terrestrial broadcasting system.

Sumitomo Electric System Solutions is responsible for generating road traffic information based on vehicle location information collected in Manila by utilizing the road traffic information generation technology that the company has developed through its experience in Japan and abroad. Making optimal use of the results of this pilot program, we will commercialize the technology in the Philippines and then deploy it in emerging countries to contribute to society by providing road traffic information.
