The Tingye Li Innovation Prize was established in 2013 for honoring the global impact Dr. Li made to the field of optics and photonics. The prize will be presented to a young professional who has demonstrated innovative ideas in their accepted presentation during the OFC or the CLEO Conference.

1. Award Recipient

Tetsuya Hayashi (Optical Communications Laboratory)

2. Award-Winning Presentation

T. Hayashi, Y. Tamura, T. Hasegawa, and T. Taru, "125-µm-cladding Coupled Multi-core Fiber with Ultra-low Loss of 0.158 dB/km and Record-low Spatial Mode Dispersion of 6.1 ps/km1/2," in Optical Fiber Communication Conference Postdeadline Papers, OSA Technical Digest (online) (Optical Society of America, 2016), paper Th5A.1.

The awarded presentation was presented in recognition of their efforts to demonstrate the outstanding optical performance and the strong potential for the practical application of the coupled multi-core fiber that can cope with the capacity crunch.

Sumitomo Electric continues the development of various MCFs and related-technologies for their practical application.
