Commencement of Supply of 10G PON OLT-Compliant High-Power Diplexer Samples

Sumitomo Electric has succeeded in developing a diplexer[*1] that conforms to XG-PON OLT N2b[*2], an optical communication standard for high-speed FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home), and commenced the supply of samples.

Comprising an external modulation type semiconductor laser diode in which a Sumitomo Electric semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is incorporated, the newly developed diplexer can emit an optical output as high as +10.5 dBm. This diplexer can therefore be used to increase the number of optical splitters from a local station or to extend optical transmission distances.

The new diplexers are expected to be used in next-generation FTTH and expand demand.

*1: Diplexer

An optical device for multiplexing both upstream and downstream optical signals in a single optical fiber. It comprises an optical fiber, signal transmitter, signal receiver, optical coupling lenses for both the transmitter and receiver, and an optical filter that demultiplexes transmission and receiving waves of different wavelengths.

*2: XG-PON OLT N2b

One of the FTTH optical communication standards established by ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector). This standard specifies the configuration of a network that splits light from a local station and delivers the light to two or more subscribers at downstream and upstream speeds of 10 Gb/s and 2.5 Gb/s, respectively.
