Sumitomo Electric’s 10G-EPON Has Been Introduced to Kagawa TV Broadcast Network Co., Ltd.

In North America, cable TV service providers have already begun to introduce 10G-EPON for business and household use. Sumitomo Electric is highly reputed for its in-house development and production of 10G-EPON systems and optical devices that play key roles in the systems, as well as for quick utilization of the virtualization technology called DPoE,*1 or Data over cable service interface specifications (DOCSIS) provisioning over EPON. These efforts have allowed us to enjoy the largest market share in the North American 10G-GEPON market.

Based on the above background, we suggested domestic cable TV service providers use 10G-EPON systems. As a result, Kagawa TV Broadcast Network has introduced a 10G-EPON system (consisting of a station side unit “FSU7100” equipped with a 10G-EPON line card and a corporate side terminal unit “FTE7502”).

Sumitomo Electric has also been expanding the 10G-ONU terminal and 4K set-top box*2 product lineups in order to actively propose the introduction of 10G-EPON systems and thereby popularize high-speed, comfortable, and safe broadband infrastructures.

DPoE: An industry standard technique for operating 1/10G-EPONs by utilizing CATV users’ existing control system for the hybrid fiber-coaxial service lines.
Set-top box (STB): A device that receives image signals and converts them to the signals suitable for TV broadcasting.

・“DPoE” and “DOCSIS” are the trademarks or registered trademarks of U.S. Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. in the U.S. and other countries.
