Sumitomo Electric Sponsors WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has been chosen as an official sponsor for the WorldSkills* Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE in September 2017. The Company will support the Information Network Cabling Competition by providing its fiber optic products to 16 national teams from all over the world.
Sumitomo Electric fiber optic products have been used worldwide for many years and the products gained great reputation for high quality, safety and easy operation. In recognition of the company's continuous technical contribution and support to the event over the past years, its fiber optic products have been chosen to be used in the competition.
WorldSkills is a biannual event held to promote vocational training for and knowledge exchange between young engineers in the participant countries. This year, the event will draw approximately 1,400 participants from 77 countries and regions. Among all the 51 competitions, the Information Network Cabling Competition has been particularly drawing attention, and the number of competitors has been increasing as optical fiber network has been deployed at a rapid pace in many countries. Sumitomo Electric will continue to contribute to expansion of optical information networks and development of cabling skills through the provision of high quality products and technical support.

* WorldSkills: The event started with the participation of 12 young workers from Spain and Portugal to compete their technical skills. With entrant countries and competitors increasing, the WorldSkills has become known as a global event for skilled youth. Japan has attended since the 11th event in 1962, and the Japanese national team has won the gold medal in the Information Network Cabling competition for 6 consecutive times.
