Kensuke Takezawa Retires from Professional Athletics

Mr. Kensuke Takezawa, a member of the athletics club of Sumitomo Electric industries, Ltd., has decided to retire from professional athletics. On behalf of Mr. Takezawa, the Company would like to express its sincere appreciation for the warm encouragement and support that has been extended to him throughout his career.

Statement from Kensuke Takezawa

I have decided to retire from professional athletics this season.
Although I have not been able to achieve the desired results in recent years, your warm support has enabled me to continue my career as a professional athlete. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all of you.
I would also like to ask for your continuing support for the athletics club of Sumitomo Electric.

Major Achievements

2008 Represented Japan at the Beijing Olympics in the 5,000 m and 10,000 m (when he was a fourth-year student of Waseda University)
2013 Joined the athletics club of Sumitomo Electric after having been a member of another corporate team
Led his team to compete in the 2014 All-Japan Men's Corporate Team Ekiden Championships (New Year Ekiden), held on the New Year's Day, for the first time in the Company's history
Continued to contribute as the ace of the team to competing in the New Year Ekiden for the third consecutive year
