$2.4 Million world's first commercial contract for power transmission high-temperature superconducting cable.(2006)

 Sumitomo Electric has contracted with the Korean Electric Power Company (KEPCO) to construct a complete 100 meter HTS cable system in Korea. The system delivers 22.9kV and 1250A capacity, which is 5 times as conventional Korean distribution line, through 100 meters of cable. Featuring 3-in-One HTS cable, Sumitomo Electric also supplied the LN2 cooling system and terminations. The 100 meter underground cable was installed at the Gochang KEPCO/KEPRI test site and passed the acceptance test successfully.

 The 100 meter underground cable is scheduled for installation at the Gochang KEPRI test site, as shown below.
