Group Company of the Month: ANT-E

In 2006, SEI ANTech-Europe GmbH (ANT-E) was established as the Sumitomo Electric Group’s wiring harness development base in Europe. In 2008, in order to better cater to the Volkswagen (VW) Group, ANT-E founded a branch in Wolfsburg (WOB), where the VW headquarters is located. The company’s responsibilities are to propose Japanese products to European customers, to share European technological trends with staff in Japan, and to develop original technologies in Europe, on which the company will place its main focus.

Report from ANT-E in Germany, which works hard to increase the Group’s market share, as its wiring harness development base in Europe.

Aiming for a total promotion of wiring harness systems, based on joint development of in-vehicle electronic devices with a local company

ANT-E, the Sumitomo Electric Group’s wiring harness development base in Europe, acts as the Group’s European version of AutoNetworks Technologies, Ltd. in Japan. Headquartered in Mainz-Kastel in the suburbs of Frankfurt, in 2008, ANT-E established a branch in the building of Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze GmbH (SEBN) in WOB, where the VW headquarters is located, in order to better cater to the VW Group.

Transferred to WOB in May 2011, I’m now engaged in the development and promotion of in-vehicle electronic devices.

The Sumitomo Electric Group’s wiring harnesses boast a large share of the European market. However, the Group’s share of connectors and electronic devices, which are components of such wiring harnesses, is small, and the sales expansion of these items is our major challenge. In addition, it is becoming more and more important to respond to market needs regarding wiring harnesses for EVs and HEVs.

Hello, everyone! I joined in the Sumitomo Electric Group in September 1999 and accumulated experience in various fields such as engineering, procurement, and sales. Since January 2012, I’ve been working as a manager at the WOB assessment center. I would like to satisfy customers and do my best to ensure that the company achieves its goals.

I spend weekends with my family in the suburbs of Dusseldorf, Europe’s largest “little Tokyo.” I’ve been familiar with Japanese culture for many years, mainly through Japanese cuisine, and I always feel close to Japan.

Guten Tag! Since joining ANT-E in July 2011, I’ve been responsible mainly for monthly and annual accounts settlement and payroll processing. Before I began to work for this company, all I knew about Japan was sushi, hanami, and the imperial family, and I only had a stereotyped image of the country. However, the experience of working at this company has enabled me to appreciate Japanese culture more deeply. In particular, I’ve learned from the Japanese mentality of showing respect to others, discipline, and modesty. At ANT-E, surrounded by excellent colleagues, I’ve made many good friends. I’m truly proud of working for the global company Sumitomo Electric Group. I’m looking forward to going to Japan someday!

【Places of Interest】City Blessed with Nature
City of Forests and Lakes

I live in Hannover, the federal state capital of Lower Saxony in the northern part of Germany, with a population of about 500,000. Since approximately 70% of the city’s downtown area was destroyed during the Second World War, regrettably, few historic structures are found today. However, the forests, lakes, and parks are well arranged in the city, enabling residents to enjoy their lives surrounded by abundant nature. In addition, being located in the center of the northern part of the country, the city is an important traffic hub, providing very convenient access to other cities.

Home of Beer

Germany is renowned as the home of beer. It is said that this reputation has been achieved through the country’s 500-year-old Beer Purity Law, which assures high quality of the product. The law stipulates that the ingredients shall be only hops, malt, water, and yeast, and prohibits the use of other constituents. There is a rich variety of German beer; more than 5,000 brands are produced at more than 1,300 breweries across the country. Many breweries have their own beer halls where you can enjoy freshly produced beer. If you have an opportunity to visit Germany, why not try local beer, along with delicious sausage?
