The history of Sumitomo Electric dates back to April 1, 1897 when Sumitomo Copper Rolling Works was established. On the first Sunday of April every year, we hold the Inari Festival at the three Works?Osaka, Itami and Yokohama?to celebrate the anniversary of our company's founding. On the Festival day, we host various festivities in the hope that our company will continue to develop and that all employees ensure safety and health. Every year, I participate in one of the Festivals as an organizer.
At the Sumitomo Electric Group, we are making efforts to strengthen our business structure with S (safety), E (environment), Q (quality), C (cost), D (delivery) and D (research & development) as the basic elements of our activities. Among these elements, I take every opportunity to encourage each group company to place the highest importance on safety. Under the slogan of "Safety comes first," each company has been implementing various safety improvements, including safety education and training, safety measures for facilities, and workplace safety activities. In addition to these activities, we venerate God every year to sincerely acknowledge our business achievement during the preceding fiscal year and pray for employee safety in the new fiscal year.
At the Inari Festival, which is a common festival, we organize various attractions and invite employees and their families, nearby residents, and retired persons. With the exception of last year when we voluntarily refrained from hosting the Inari Festival due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Festival has been held at the best time to view cherry blossoms. On the Festival day, each Works organizes a variety of original, elaborate attractions to give visitors a satisfying experience. The highlight of the Inari Festival at each Works this year is the "Tohoku Food Fair." I hope that the Festival will be favored by good weather and received enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, fiscal year 2012 is the final year of the Vision 2012. When we look back on the past four years, we see that we continuously encountered various unforeseen economic phenomena that might occur once in 100 or 1,000 years. These undesirable phenomena have been blocking us from accomplishing our original goals. Even in such situations, the Sumitomo Electric Group will not give up but join together and continues to make steadfast efforts believing that our past activities will produce tangible results.
We will appreciate your continued support and encouragement and wish you happiness in this fiscal year.
