At the Standardization Management Board of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) held in Melbourne, Australia on October 24, Mr. Ken-ichi Sato, a Fellow of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., won an "IEC/Thomas A. Edison Award."
The IEC/Thomas A. Edison Award is given for extinguished achievements or contributions through efficient management of IEC committees.
This year, marking the second award, Standardization Management Board members voted for 4 persons out of 11 representing their countries. Mr. Sato has worked for 22 years as an international secretary of IEC/TC90, a technical committee for standardization in the field of superconductivity. The Board members greatly appreciated the 15 international standards he drew up in the field of superconductive technology.
Sumitomo Electric will continue to work as a leader in international standardization of superconductive technology, and thereby contribute to the advancement of this technology.
