In April last year, our new research building, "WinD Lab," was opened. It was constructed under a symbolic project marking the 110th anniversary of the founding of Sumitomo Electric. WinD Lab features state-of-the-art research facilities, comfortable office spaces, functional guest areas and a lecture hall, as well as a roof garden and an adjacent rose garden. As a leading facility of the Sumitomo Electric Group, WinD Lab fulfills its functions.
Before the completion of WinD Lab, intensive discussions were held to set up a monument suitable for the facility, in the hall of the research building. On August 1, a set of monuments were erected as described below.
The monument on the research building side (at the rear of the photo) represents the development of our Group’s existing business segments, while the monument on the lecture hall side (at the front of the photo) symbolizes newly emerging business frontiers. These monuments are overwhelming installations made of white porcelain, expressing extremely powerful and dynamic interactions. Placed in the roof garden and rose garden are planters and stools with a color and design to match the monuments. Together with these items, the monuments have an impressive presence.
