| Having been promoting its waste reduction efforts, Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has achieved zero emissions(*) of waste at all of its three Japanese production sites (Osaka, Itami, and Yokohama Works) for two consecutive years.
Sumitomo Electric places protection of the global environment as one of its management priorities, and is proactively carrying out various environmental conservation measures, including the "Action ECO-21" campaign, across the entire Sumitomo Electric Group.
The Company continuously conducts waste reduction activities like production equipment improvement, in-house wastewater treatment, in-house waste prevention, and in-house plastic waste recycling. These efforts have resulted into the achievement of zero emissions at all of Sumitomo Electric’s three domestic production sites in Osaka (Osaka prefecture), Itami (Hyogo prefecture), and Yokohama (Kanagawa prefecture) for two consecutive years.
At the Yokohama Works, however, zero emissions have been achieved for four consecutive years since 2004.

Sumitomo Electric aims at accomplishing zero emissions not only at its three production sites in Japan but also across the entire Sumitomo Electric Group including affiliated companies around the world. The Company will enhance its zero-emissions efforts so as to further reduce the environmental burden.
(*) Zero emissions: Waste disposed by simple incineration (waste incineration in which heat generated is not recovered as the thermal source for boilers, etc.) and landfill is 1% or less of total waste.
