Participated in the Akasaka-Aoyama Cleanup Campaign

Hello, I’m Takezawa of the CSR Promotion Office.

On October 18, the Akasaka-Aoyama Cleanup Campaign, the local cleanup initiative organized by the Akasaka Regional City Office in Tokyo, was held in the area around Tokyo Metro Aoyama 1-chome Station. I participated in this campaign for the first time.

I joined Sumitomo Electric on July 1 this year, and belong to the Company’s athletics club. I’m usually too busy with training to participate in the campaign, but this time, I could join them between training sessions.

On the day of the event, under a clear autumn sky, a total of 127 members, including people from local companies and local residents, worked together. The area around Aoyama 1-chome Station was clean enough to deserve the name of a clean town with good manners; even local residents who participated were surprised to find that there was little garbage in the area. The amount of garbage collected in the area was extremely small compared with that in other areas where the campaign had been held before. This made participants feel that local companies and residents’ awareness of good manners was increasing day by day. We would like to continue working together to ensure that Akasaka-Aoyama remains an example of good manners!

I would like to continue making an active social contribution through participating in local cleanup campaigns.

Let me share a personal topic of mine. I won the 5,000 m men’s championship at the Sumitomo Athletics Festa held on October 20. Our athletics club will compete in the New Year Ekiden, or All-Japan Men's Corporate Team Ekiden Championships, to be held on January 1, 2014, for the first time. We’re looking forward to your continuous support.
