Second Fair of Products from the Tohoku Region Held at the Tokyo Head Office

Hello, everyone! I’m Futatsugami of the HR & Administration Div., Tokyo Head Office.

At the Tokyo Head Office last year, we began holding a fair of products from the Tohoku region for employees of our group companies, in order to support the region’s reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake. This year, the fair was held on Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21, to contribute to revitalization of the region.

Now that more than two years have passed since the tragedy, it is said that “two types of winds” are blowing in the affected areas: the fading of people’s memories of the disaster; and harmful rumors causing further damage to the areas.

Actually, I myself was born in the coastal area of Iwate Prefecture, which suffered immense damage from the tsunamis. This has given me even stronger determination than other people to contribute to the Tohoku region’s reconstruction. To remind employees at our group companies of the affected areas by selling products from the Tohoku region, at the fair I yelled out to attract as much attention as possible!!

Sold on the day of the event were snacks, noodles, beverages, Japanese sake, and many other items from Iwate Prefecture, Fukushima Prefecture, and Miyagi Prefecture. Kamome-no-tamago, a well-known sweet cake from Iwate Prefecture, was sold out on the first day. Japanese-style pickles from Miyagi Prefecture were also very well received. Some employees who had bought Saru-nashi juice from Fukushima Prefecture on the first day bought the product again on the second day. Thanks to cooperation from employees, all products were sold out :-).

By demonstrating some ingenuity, such as presenting up-to-date information on the affected areas, we would like to hold the fair to further promote understanding of the importance of support for the areas. Moreover, since sightseeing in the Tohoku region is also a form of support in reconstructing the affected areas, we also would like to promote PR efforts for sightseeing in the region. We will continue doing our best to blow away the “two types of winds”!!
