Message to the Sumitomo Electric Group Members –Upon the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami
The earthquake struck the north-east and Pacific coast of Japan, causing massive damage to Tohoku, Kanto and other wide areas in the country. I pray for the safety of the people in the regions with minimum casualties, while paying respect to those who are committing the rescue work. I offer my deepest condolences to the victims of this natural disaster, and my heartfelt sympathy to our employees and their families who have been affected.
Soon after the quake, our group companies started confirming the safety of our people and their families, while starting restoration activities for our business. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our group members who are involved in these activities in the affected regions. In the restoration activities, please take extreme caution for the second disaster.
On such occasions, it is of the most importance for each and every one of us to do our best in the respective position, and work together with the spirit of mutual cooperation among the group companies and affiliates. In rebuilding the nation, we will have to face various difficulties, but it is time for us to work together in a united effort through a close communication among the group companies to overcome this critical situation.
Our company has to respond to the social needs through providing infrastructure products and taking on other production for affected manufacturers. For the earliest recovery of society and industries in Japan as well as our group business, I am going to take the lead in the assistance.
To save the victims and help the affected regions, we are also considering company-wide assistance, including monetary donation, humanitarian aid and material supports. Apart from these corporate efforts, however, I would also like to ask you for active involvement in volunteer activities on a personal basis.
We have experience and knowledge learnt from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Once again, I ask each and every one of you to demonstrate your sincerity in your respective workplaces and positions, and work together to overcome this national crisis.
