On December 18, I attended the 3rd Sumitomo Electric Group Top Executive Conference for Greater China, held in Wuxi, China. The event drew a total of about 140 general managers and national executive staff members from about 60 of our group companies located in the Greater China Region, including those from Hong Kong and Taiwan. The conference was held in a very lively atmosphere.
On the morning of the day of the event, I visited plants of the two companies of Sumitomo Electric Wintec (Wuxi) Co., Ltd., and Sumiden Powder Metallurgy (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. One of the purposes of these plant tours was to allow the participants to share good examples of manufacturing in Greater China, transcending the boundaries of companies. In fact, we were able to observe some improvements originally made at the site of manufacturing.
In the afternoon, national executive staff delivered final reports on the action learning program, in which they had worked on various themes to be shared throughout Greater China. In addition, previous year's action learning program members reported on their specific efforts relating to PR and manufacturing, which they had conducted as part of their area committee activities. I exchanged opinions with these national staff and program members.
The business environment of Greater China is changing rapidly and dynamically. The conference made me realize once again that to respond to such changes, our national staff members are thinking a lot and taking action aggressively; their dedication is truly reassuring. I hope that they will continue to demonstrate such excellent performance this year as well!
