Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has commenced the sales of “Super Multidrill HGS,” the novel general-purpose solid carbide drill with oil holes. |

Users in the field of drilling have been looking for smaller machines that reduce production costs and CO2 emissions and save space, as well as for high-efficiency machining that reduces machining time and number of machines. Accordingly, demand has been growing for tools that enable wobble-free, stable drilling even on a small machine, are highly efficient and offer long service life.
To respond to these needs, last October we have developed general-purpose solid carbide drill (external-lubrication type) “Super Multidrill GS,” drawing upon our original novel tool profile and coating film. Subsequently this time we have launched “Super Multidrill HGS” with oil holes capable of internal lubrication and MQL (*1), thereby enabling highly accurate and effective drilling of the depth of 3 x D, 5 x D and 8 x D (D: drill diameter).
Features of this product: |
|
|
|
(1) |
Substantially enhanced chip control and chip flow
“J-flute design” with unique J-shaped cross-section breaks and wide chip pockets chips into small fragments, drastically improving chip flow. This feature eliminates tool fracture caused by chip clogging or stoppage due to chips winding around.
|
(2) |
Double margin design (*2) realizes more stable machining
“Double margin design” employed into four edging parts in total enables straightforward, precise drilling with a drilling hole nearing a perfect round shape even in deep processing. (Drill diameters from 2.0 to 2.4 mm employ single margin design.)
|
(3) |
Drill-only coating “DEX Coat” extends service life
As with the “Super Multidrill GS,” our nanocoating-technology based composite super multilayer coating “DEX Coat” is applied to the “Super Multidrill HGS,” dramatically enhancing its chipping resistance. Moreover, with the addition of silicon and chromium, “DEX coat” substantially improves resistance to wear, heat and adhesion, doubling tool service life in comparison with conventional coatings.
