Universal Traffic Management Systems (UTMS)

Vehicle-infrastructure cooperation improves traffic safety and convenience.

UTMS, with a core of ITCS, consists of subsystems aimed at providing traffic information, supporting safe driving, emergency actions, enhancing efficiency on mobility and distribution logistics, and assisting pedestrians.

Advanced Mobile Information Systems (AMIS)

This system provides real time traffic information gathered at the Traffic Control Center and delivers them via VICS*,variable message signs, car radios and other media.

Driving Safety Support Systems (DSSS)

DSSS is designed to prevent traffic accidents. This system relays traffic information through optical beacons to on-board devices, to warn drivers about situations that are difficult to see. Based on the incoming data from beacons and driving status, on-board devices provide information to drivers. In case that DSSS determines that a driver is running so fast that he/she can go through a red ahead, considering data from beacons (the status of signals ahead and car position), the driver will be warned (Traffic signal alerting system).

Public Transportation Priority Systems (PTPS)

PTPS gives priority to public transportations by controlling signals such as green extension or red shortening. It detects buses via infrared beacons installed at intersections. When traffic congestion occur, our system ensures on-time travel and speeding up during rush hours by operating priority control automatically in the directions of forward travel of buses.

Fast Emergency Preemption Systems (FAST)

FAST helps emergency vehicles to shorten their arrival time on the scene. It controls signals to prioritize driving of emergency vehicles detected by the infrared beacons. Our system, which controls 6 signals with one infrared beacon, can extend or reduce the signal time depending on the time zones or the types of vehicles. In Tokyo and Okayama, for example, the time of driving through intersection has been reduced by 14% on average.
