What are the details of your career to date?

I began my employment with SCI in 1996 in the position of Sales Manager, and in 2001, was promoted to Senior Sales Manager. My duties included sales and distribution of cemented carbide tools products in the Midwest area of the U.S. I also managed our 23 Direct Field Staff, who represented those states. The Midwest Sales Group has enjoyed a high degree of success, and now is the core Business Volume for SCI, attaining 40% of the entire Sales volume, for the U.S. and Canadian market.

In 2011, I was promoted to Director of Sales for SCI. My responsibilities are over SCI Sales and Distribution Networks of cemented carbide tools products in the U.S. and Canada. I also manage 62 Direct SCI Field Staff employees, who represent the U.S. Market.

My Sales and Engineering Job background, and prior related Studies have prepared me well for this job opportunity. I find this position to be my most exciting challenge, and truly enjoy this opportunity! I feel that a few of the key factors for SCI to continue to achieve high Market Share & Sales gains, is to strive to improve our overall communication at every level!

As I have told my staff members, I have felt for a very long time that I enjoy my job more each year, than I had the year before, and that is a testament to how great a company that we all work for, Sumitomo Electric. This also is such an exciting time for Sumitomo Electric Carbide, and I am thankful to be part of it!!

About Action Learning Program

I was fortunate to be selected to be a member of Sumitomo Electric Group Action Learning Program, of which are for all SEI Company Executives for SEI Companies, located within the United States. Our U.S. Team Assignment Theme was “What are the key points for expansion of SEI Group business in North America”

At the onset of the U.S. Team assignment, even though I had been employed by SCI for 15 years, I did not know a lot about our entire Company, SEI Industries. I believe that many SEI employees, as I had, routinely go about their daily business, and do not have the opportunity to see the bigger picture of our Company.

I feel that due to the Action Learning Program in which we surveyed, visited, and interviewed Management Staff from many of our U.S. based SEI Companies, I now have a better understanding of how each SEI Company North American business operates, how their Products are Manufactured, Marketed and Sold, along with the normal aspirations of gaining Market Share and Sales Revenue, while maintaining high profitability.

After the Action Learning Program

In the bigger picture of SEI, I now realize how each of our SEI Companies are linked with our parent company, Sumitomo Electric Industries with the business plan being to diversify into many markets, which will further propel SEI Industries into a yet higher position, as a Global Leader.

In closing, I am grateful to Sumitomo Electric Group for allowing me the opportunity to participate in the Action Learning Program, and feel that I am now wiser in comprehension of Sumitomo, which will assist in future decisions that I will make!!
