Sumitomo Electric Photo-Electronics Components (Suzhou), Ltd. (SPEC) manufactures optical devices and optical transceivers for information communications equipment. Established in April 2007, SPEC is Sumitomo Electric Group’s first mass-production company featuring an integrated production system for a range of products from optical devices to optical transceivers. Currently, serving as an important mass-production base for Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations, Inc. (SEDI), we are manufacturing a wide variety of products ranging from those for low-speed 2.5 Gb/s to those for high-speed 100 Gb/s, with the main focus on the North American market, and the Chinese market, where the information communication speed has been increasing.

Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations, Inc.: One of the few manufacturers in the world that are engaged in the development and manufacture of both optical devices and electronic devices.

Cooperating with SEDI to Launch New Products as Quickly as Possible

Located in the Suzhou New District of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, near Shanghai, we serve as an important base for SEDI, partly due to the accessibility from Japan, rich human resources, superiority in global distribution, and well established infrastructures.

We are presently manufacturing optical device products and optical transceiver products, but in order to expand our sales in the future and remain competitive, we need to supply new products to the market as quickly as possible. It is, thus, essential to cooperate with SEDI, which performs a mother function.

Optical Devices - Light-Transmitting/-Receiving Devices for Optical Communications Systems
A wide variety of light-transmitting/-receiving devices support the foundation of optical communications systems. The portfolio includes semiconductor lasers and photodiodes for optical data links, as well as wavelength-tunable lasers and optical receivers for optical coherent communications devices in backbone systems.

Wang Guocheng

Wang Guocheng

Go-anzenni (safety first), everyone! I’m Wang Guocheng. I joined SPEC in April 2012, and now working as a plant manager. Aiming to create a pleasant working environment where employees can enjoy working, I check manufacturing sites every day, and work on plant improvements in terms of safety, the environment, quality, and operational efficiency.

By accelerating a wide variety of improvement efforts so that we can respond to an increase in production of new products in the future, I would like to continue doing my best and contribute to achieving the target of developing our plant into the world’s best optical components production plant.

Xiong Qinqin

Xiong Qinqin

Hello, everyone! My name is Xiong Qinqin. I joined the company in May 2008, and am a section manager in charge of production management. My major responsibilities include managing orders placed on us, preparing and tracing production plans and components plans, ensuring that delivery dates are met, and managing inventory. We are trying to shorten our delivery time by using one of our competitive advantages an integrated production system for a range of products from optical devices to optical transceivers. This year, we are further accelerating our production of high-performance products, such as transceivers for 100 Gb/s. I would like to continue doing my best together with all other employees in supplying customers with highly satisfying products in a short delivery time.

Places of Interest

City with an Atmosphere of Old Days

In Suzhou City, there are many sightseeing spots, including the Lingering Garden and the Humble Administrator’s Garden, which are two of those touted as the four most beautiful gardens in China, and which have also been placed on the World Heritage list. Among such excellent destinations, I recommend strolling through Shantang Street at night (though the pictures below show daytime scenes on the street). Featuring white-walled houses, water channels, and stone bridges, the street are where you can enjoy a folksy atmosphere of old days. You may also like a wide variety of shops along alleys of the street.

Booming Development of Infrastructures for Transportation and Medical Care

In Suzhou City, there are many high-rise apartment buildings, detached houses, and shopping malls that are still under construction. The development of transportation infrastructures is also underway, with subway lines No. 3, 4, and 7 still under construction. (I hear that the subway lines have been planned up to No. 9.) Actually, the construction of streetcar line No. 2 is in progress literally right in front of my office. Furthermore, a large hospital, named Suzhou Science & Technology Town Hospital, is scheduled to be opened. This will accelerate the development of infrastructures for medical care as well.
