2015 Automotive Engineering Exposition

The 2015 Automotive Engineering Exposition will be held from Wednesday, May 20 to Friday, May 22, 2015 at Pacifico Yokohama.

The Sumitomo Electric Group with its exhibition concept of a comprehensive parts manufacturer supporting the evolution of cars , will exhibit a wide range of automobile-related items that the Group provides. The items include products and technologies for fuel cell vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems, which are particularly attracting public attention in recent years. We look forward to your visit to our booth.

Aluminum wiring harnesses
Aluminum wiring harnesses

A wiring harness is an electrical wiring system that transmits information and energy inside an automobile. A car may have more than 2,000 wiring harness circuits. Growing environmental awareness demands further improvement of fuel efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions; reduction of overall vehicle weight is becoming a major issue as well, thus demanding an ever smaller and lighter wiring harness. The Sumitomo Electric Group continues developing new technologies in wire, connection, and corrosion protection, continually expanding the applications of aluminum wiring harnesses.

Fuel cell gasket
Fuel cell gasket

This is a gasket for fuel cells adopted in the Toyota MIRAI car, the first mass-produced fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) in the world. The gasket maintains continual flow of hydrogen and oxygen through the fuel cells and improves drainage of the generated water.

High-performance rubber created by a unique formulation design achieves long-term sealing performance in a wide thermal range from low to high temperatures.

Next-generation central gateway
Next-generation central gateway

To realize an advanced driver assistance system and automated driving, establishing a fast, secure vehicle communication technology is essential.

The central gateway (Central G/W) consolidates the management of data communications for each system among a large number of computers (ECUs) mounted in a car. In particular, the next-generation Central G/W corresponds to new communication protocols such as high-speed CAN (CAN-FD) and in-vehicle Ethernet. In addition, the central G/W monitors the interior car networks and incorporates our unique security feature (LymCure® ) to prevent external threats.

At the exhibition we plan to demonstrate using one of its new features, the communication protocol CAN-FD.

Cutaway model for demonstration

Last year, we attracted much interest from many visitors by exhibiting a cutaway model of a full-scale vehicle equipped with a diverse product portfolio of the Group.

This year, we are adding a wiring harness with 700 circuits, a component normally hidden behind the instrument panel (the panel of instruments and operating switches in front of the driver's seat) to further promote the strength of our Group’s products.
