Sumitomo Electric Expands Production Capacity for Water Treatment Membrane Modules in China

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. will expand and reinforce the production capacity for water treatment membrane modules at Zhongshan Sumiden Hybrid Products Co., Ltd. (ZSH), a subsidiary of the Sumitomo Electric Group located in Guangdong Province in China.

With the progress of the Chinese economy, water pollution has developed into a serious social issue. The Chinese Government has launched the Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Water Pollution (Water 10) to improve the water environment across the country in stages.

Sumitomo Electric produces polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) water treatment membrane "POREFLON™" modules having high stain resistance, long service life, and various other outstanding features. The Company assembles the modules at ZSH to sell them in China and in other Asian markets. The objective of this facility investment is to meet the demand for membrane modules that is growing rapidly as a result of the recent effective enforcement of environmental regulations. Sumitomo Electric is aiming to increase its yearly production to 500,000 m², which is 1.5 times the present capacity. The new facilities are scheduled to commence operation in March 2018.

Sumitomo Electric takes the increase in the production capacity as an opportunity to expand the field of application of the modules, and continues to provide its customers in China and other Asian countries with high-quality water treatment membrane products and services.
