Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that the Dayton Plant of Sumiden Wire Products Corporation (SWPC), one of our group's US subsidiaries, has started operation.
SWPC was established in 1979 as our first manufacturing subsidiary in the United States. With business bases in California and Tennessee, the company manufactures and sells pre-stressed concrete (PC)* strands used for buildings and bridges and stainless steel wires used for automobile springs.
In response to demand for PC strands in the southern US, SWPC has newly established a factory in Dayton, Texas, and started production of PC strands. On July 17, 2017, the company invited the mayor of Dayton City and others to the plant's opening ceremony, which was also attended by our Managing Executive Officer, Hiroyasu Torii, and SWPC directors.
Starting operation of the new plant will enhance our production capacity and stabilize our supply system of PC strands. We will continue providing products and services that sustain infrastructure throughout the United States.
