Sumitomo Electric Develops V-by-One US-Compliant Flexible Flat Cable "Type-III WS" and Starts Shipping Samples

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has developed the brand new flexible flat cable "Type-III WS," which will be compliant with V-by-One US, the advanced next-generation high-speed interface standard*¹ established by THine Electronics, Inc.*² Sumitomo Electric has started shipping its samples.

The V-by-One US requires a transmission rate of 16 Gbps per lane, aiming at the transmission of 8K images. Sumitomo Electric has strengths in development of flexible flat cables for high-speed data transmission of 4K and other high-definition images, and has been developing flexible flat cable with THine Electronics since 2016.

Sumitomo Electric has developed Type-III WS, a flexible flat cable capable of transmitting images at up to 16 Gbps per lane, and is now ready to provide customers with the samples. The Company is planning to commercialize the cable by 2018.

With 2020 Tokyo Olympics in sight, the market demand for electronic equipment related to 8K image technology is expected to increase. Sumitomo Electric will contribute to the development of electronics manufacturers through the provision of its Type-III at an early stage.
